This piece is constructed of handspun threads being sewn together from two panels. This textile is at least 80 years old, possibly being as early as 1900. Fine and rare classical old Cambodian silk lower garment, approximately 70 to 100 years old. This piece may be worn either by men or women. It was originally sewn together and stepped into like a sarong skirt however it was given one fold in the front and then twisted from the bottom and pulled between the legs and tucked in the front and secured to the waist with a silk sash or belt to form a pantaloon type garment The frog pattern is very rare and the only one of I have yet to see. The brightly colored bands are made with commercial silk thread weft threads. The rest of the piece is made of handwoven handspun natural dyed cotton, with two bands of ikat. There are tiny weaving flaws here and there (little spots of broken threads, but no holes) otherwise pristine original c...

Rare antique two paneled bed cover from the Daizu ethnic minority, Xishuangbanna Yunnan, China, only the second in this style of weaving from this group I have ever seen. An unusual piece with very fine silk embroidery and woven field with what may be hemp/ramie handspun threads, as it has a slightly coarser and stiff feel than standard cotton thread. I would date this circa early late 19th/20th century with natural dyes. There are small holes and tears throughout the piece as to be...

Jacket panel from the remote Miao Jiupang group from Jiahe County, Guizhou province, with purple embroidered pattern between the spaces in the tin decoration. This style of decoration is unique to this group and very difficult to make, as every tiny bit of tin has to be individually cut and crimped. Acquired in Beijing about 20 years ago, these are the only examples I have seen outside of Guizhou, when I visited in 2001. This is semi antique circa 50 to 60 years old L; 44cm/17.5in (n...
