Good strand of quartz crystal beads (and a few carnelians) excavated from the Tak Burial site near. Mae Sot along the Thai/Burmese border. Artifacts from this dig are from 14th/16th CE due to datable ceramics that were found in the same strata, but having said this, these are much older, as similar beads and have been found in the Ban Chiang and Lopburi (Bronze Age sites) and have been traded in the region for at least 2000 years...

An exceptionally rare Shan (aka Dai, Tai) altar figure carved from hard and tough iron wood, circa 19th CE (possibly earlier.) As with most ethnic groups from this region in Southeast Asia, local animist and ancestor traditions coexist or are integrated with the predominantly Buddhist. This piece came from the Shan State, Burma and is H: 14.7cm5.8in.

Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed stone (mostly carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating from 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old. There are a few agate and quartzite beads in the lot, some with traces of “etching”. The crescent shaped beads would have originally small ringed shaped ornaments that have been drilled and “knapped” to some extent to accommodate them being strung...

Good circa 19th CE bronze Buddha from the Shan people in Burma. I found this in Mae Sai, along the Thai/Burmese border in 1998. Wonderfully ferocious mask of the Dharmapala Mahakala. This deity is one of the protectors of the Dharma (Buddhist law), but is mainly popular with Mongolian and Tibetan nomads because traditionally he is viewed as the protector of the yurt and tent. This was crafted from chased and repoussé steel alloy which is a much more difficult medium to work than softer copper. This dates to circa 19th century, with traces of pigments on the eyes and crevices around the mouth ears...

Southern Song Dynasty, Jian type, temokku glazed bowl from the Dongzhang or Minhou kilns in Fujian province. Beautiful hare’s fur markings with some metallic iron oxide patina. There is quite a bit of kiln grit on the surface of the glaze but in terms of damage there is only one shallow chip on the mouthrim edge noted in last enlargement. This was recovered from the Tinghai Lianjiang wreck off the coast of Fujian. I acquired it about 20 years ago...

Lovely small three legged cooking vessel from the Han Dynasty. The legs are in the shape of small bears and the handles on the lid seem to resemble wing tips. There is a lot of restoration on this piece in the cooking basin, one the legs has been reattached, so please view the enlargements carefully. There is some warpage to the lid as well, but it is the original one. D: 12.4cm/4.9in and H: 10.4cm/4.4in
