A charming brushwasher in the shape of reclining scholar circa Ming/Qing Dynasty. Excellent condition- no cracks, chips etc. W: 10.4cm/4.2in and H: 10cm/4in. This has a primary cream colored base glaze with highlights in ocher and soy brown. A very rare little item. Please note that the smudges on the bottom of the piece were caused by the potter holding it with his fingers when dipping into the glaze.

Stunning traditional scroll painting of a tiger descending mountain. Actual painting size is H: 105cm/41in x W: 40cm/15.5in - mounted dimensions are H: 190cm/74in x W: 50cm/19.5in. Signed Zhang Shanzi 張善孖 but this is probably apocryphal. He was famous for his painting of tigers- based on the quality of the scroll haning screws, this was probably done in the 50s or 60s. Lovely late 19th century to early 20th century (over 100 years old), meditation panel carpet. These were usually woven like a runner with several carpets together. Dimensions: 65cm/25.5in x 65cm/25.5in. This could use a wash and two of the corners are week with missing pile and repair (see enlargements). This has the classic Ningxia yellow field.

Ensemble of three blue and white bowls circa 14CE. These are shipwreck recovery pieces that have been cleaned possibly from the Hoi An hoarde. The larger bowl is Annamese, D: 15cm/6in and H: 9cm/3.5, no cracks or chips but the rim glaze has fritted off. The two smaller bowls are a near matched pair- D: 11cm/4.2in and both have rim repairs highlighted in enlargements.

This is a molded gray clay brick/tile from the Tang Dynasty, featuring an "Atlas" type Yakshi figure seated on a lotus blossom. I encountered a similar figure during my visit to Taxila, the cradle of the Gandharan Civilization, which highlights the Greco-Roman origins of Tang art. The lotus signifies a clear Buddhist connection. While the left side of the face is slightly obscured, there is no damage. This piece is unusual in that it is smaller than others I have owned.
