Antique Chinese “lucky charm” with a bat holding a sign (almost like a Chinese pawn shop), the side in enlargement one means to have success getting a job in the civil service and the other side translates “Amitabha” Buddha. Civil service jobs were always highly desirable in old Chinese culture as they had prestige and power. This is circa Qing Dynasty and high quality silver with very detailed workmanship especially with stippling in the chasing...

Rare meditation sitting rug, constructed with cotton warp and wool weft, this piece was most likely woven in Khotan, Xinjiang and dates at least to the middle 19th century. The wool pile is pretty much worn down to nothing except for the darker brown part that has a stylized “lotus” medallion in the center and border...

Interesting wood carving of a tiger carrying a woman in its jaws. This relates to an ancient Burmese legend about two brothers (messengers of King Anawathra- founder of Pagan) who fall in love with a young girl who rejects them and so they send a tiger to kill her. If any buyer is interested I can email more info on this. This is circa 19th century there some damage and to the figure of the woman. H: 35cm/13.8in.

Good early 20th CE pair of Lanna style Northern Thai Buddhas. The small one on left is amulet sized (H: 5.2cm/2in) with traces of gold and black lacquer and the larger one is a small votive image (H: 7.2cm/2.8in). Of interest, these are cast in zinc which has a much lower melting temperature than bronze which makes it easier to cast in them large numbers and has a much more pleasing appearance and feel than lead.

One of kind, single supplementary weft embroidered panel, L: 4.63m/14.2ft and W: 36.5cm/13.8in, from the Tujia ethnic group in Guizhou, Southwest China. Its function is a bit of mystery so it being a sling wrap around baby carrier is my best guess. Originally I thought it might be a traditional wedding blanket that would be cut and sewn with three panels together but there is no border pattern woven into this piece as is typical...

Rare early 20th century Bai minority lacquered box constructed from leather. I purchased this piece in a Bai minority, weekly market in Yunnan near Dali around 2002. I have found many references to Bai lacquer but never any pictures or other documentation other than they grow the tree from which lacquer was made. One can assume this craft is no longer being done with the availability of cheap plastic items as well as the migration of artisans to better paying jobs in the city...

Old (100 years or more) leather belt from Tibet with 5 damascened silver patterns on iron fittings with complete buckle. There is some rust on the metal bits, maybe some Silvo polish on them will bring some of the shine back to the silver. All the pieces seem to be here except for a scabbard attachment. Total L: 118cm/46.5in. I bought this the Barkor bazaar in front of the Jokang in Lhasa almost 20 years ago; the leather is rough but serviceable.

Exquisite pair of late circa late 19th-early 20th CE loom weft supports carved into the shape of lotus buds with beautiful classic Khmer floral scroll motif and remnants of original red and black lacquer. I bought these in the Russian Market about 14 years ago in Phnom Pehn; a pair of equal quality is housed in the National Museum there. Each is carved from a single piece of wood. They are in very good condition with minor checks and knocks as to be expected from antique wooden implements...
