Rare Qing Dynasty, at least 18th century, jar with Ge type glaze. This could possibly be much earlier but published references on this genre are scarce, I have one example of a simple Ming meiping- Complete Collection of Ceramic Art Unearthed in China, Vol. 14- Jiangxi, with a similar indistinct cracalature and mouthrim shape. Usually these jars are quite small and are unglazed inside the footrim so this one is large and sophisticated in comparison...

Fine and rare antique Bouyi, Buyi three paneled wedding blanket with supplementary weft silk embroidered pattern. Except for the purple aniline silk thread the dyes on this piece are natural; the blanket foundation is made of a bast fiber weft (hemp or ramie) and handspun cotton warp...

Late 19th to Early 20th century, wood handled adz with hand forged blade. This item was made by the matrilineal Minangkabau people and sourced in the small town of Bukittingi in the highlands of Sumatra in 1989. The handle is well polished through years of use with quite stunning bands of carved decoration on the handle. Condition good the only damage is some “checking” in the wood near the base of the handle. Handle L: 43 cm/17in and blade L: 16.4/6.5cm.

Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed stone (mostly carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating from 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old. There are a few agate and quartzite beads in the lot, some with traces of “etching”. The crescent shaped beads would have originally small ringed shaped ornaments that have been drilled and “knapped” to some extent to accommodate them being strung...

Pair of antique hair pins from the Akha minority in Northern Thailand, very old circa 90 years or more, these kind of things are very hard to find these days as most all of the hill tribe artifacts have been collected up. Perfect condition -L: 12.4cm & 13.3cm.

60 glass shards excavated in Afghanistan that have been knapped and drilled into pendants/beads. Many have an intense opalescent (dichroic?) patina. They are quite thin and date to around the 500 CE, possibly late Roman. There are 60 pieces in total and may be used in contemporary jewelry settings. Scale in enlargement is metric.

Fine and rare “sizhi” (four straight sides) inkstone circa Qing Dynasty with footrim. This is a very conservative dating based on a similar example of an inkstone with a footrim in Chinese Inkstones by Simon Kwan pgs. 278 & 279. Good condition with one small chip noted in last enlargement. L: 11.6cm/4.5in, H: 2cm/.8in and W: 7.8cm/3.1in.

Quirky glass ring emulating agate. This piece came from China but possibly is a trade object. I acquired this in a lot of other ancient pieces. A conservative dating to this is Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and guarantees it to this period. There is one crack as well as some bubble burst pitting on the surface. Outer D: 2.8cm and inner D: 1.9cm.

Pair of “opium scales” from Laos, these came from Luang Prabang but were used through much of Southeast Asia. Most likely these were used in everyday trading whether it was pork meat to big chunks of opium and are quite simple with lead applied to one end as a counterweight and the scale being measured in hash marks along the sides. The opposite ends have been inlaid with small rectangular pieces of a darker wood (possibly buffalo horn?), a subtle but attractive decoration...

Rare antique two paneled bed cover from the Daizu ethnic minority of Southern Yunnan, China. An unusual piece with very fine silk embroidery and woven with what may be hemp/ramie handspun threads, as it has a slightly rougher feel than standard cotton thread. I would date this early 20th century with mostly natural dyes. There are small holes and tears throughout the piece as to be expected from an old textile from a tropical climate. L: 120cm/47in and W: 69cm/27in.

Good Qing Dynasty Jadeite oval plaque with beveled edge. This was most likely set into a Ruyi scepter or belt fastener. There are a few tiny chips on the unpolished edge as this side would be set into a mounting I consider them negligible. L: 5.7cm/2.2in, W: 4.cm1.6in and .5cm/.2in thickness.

Exceptionally rare pair of semi opaque white glass perforated discs from the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE). These originally were meant to be a cheap substitute for white jade funeral items, but given the fragility of glass they are more uncommon. The small (D: 4.4cm/1.8in) one has a fairly recent hairline crack and the large (D: 5.8cm/2.3in) one has some minor old chipping on the edge.

Fine and rare bronze age (circa 1st BCE to 4th CE) averturine zoomorphic “elephant” bead, from Burma- most likely Pyu culture (Sri Ksetra?), although similar artifacts have been excavated at concurrent Lopburi sites in Thailand as well as Samon sites in Burma. . There is one lateral crack along the torso. Please note scale in enlargements is metric.

Quirky Khmer style standing Buddha. I bought this in Phnom Penh about 7 years ago although not an authentic of the period piece it does have some age, circa late 19th to early 20th CE. The head broke off revealing a ceramic core and the most of the robe on the left side is missing. There is some mystery to this piece in that I don’t know if it was cast as a proper votive image to be venerated or old copy or souvenir to be flogged to the French colonial residents...
