Unusual stone carving of the Dharmapala- Mahakala manifested as Gugyi Gompo- the protector of the tent. This piece was sourced in Qinghai Province (formerly known as Amdo), China about 20 years ago and is circa 18th to 19th Century, but most likely is of Nepali origin. H: 16cm/6.5in and W: 7.8cm/3.1in (not including stand). There are remnants of a “peg” carved beneath the plinth indicating this was part of a temple ensemble rather then a personal votive image.

Nice Southern Song bowl from Jingdezhen with lightly incised floral pattern on the outside and unglazed rim. Good color although it tends to be more green than blue in real life. There is a hairline crack noted in the last enlargement. High fired porcelaneous quality- still has a ring when tapped. Good value for a ceramic of this quality, kiln and period. D: 17.5cm/6.8in and H: 6cm/2.3in.

Rare 4.9cm/1.9in Thai stoneware bowl from the Sankampaeng kiln circa 15th/16th CE with two fish in the center and scalloped cavetto, there is well done repaired chip on the inner rim noted last enlargement. This is a classic and definitive piece for the Sankampaeng kiln as the incised/impressed fish motif is only found on ceramics from this Thai kiln. There are some blue flambé highlights in the center, probably accidental but quite attractive. D: 21.5cm/8.2in and H: 5cm/2in.

Stunning wooden statue of a court official or Taoist deity circa Ming Dynasty. He has a fierce countenance and although small has an imposing presence. Please examine images carefully; this has some fire damage as well as damage to arms. There is some compacted soil under the legs as well as having an unusually light weight which leads me to think this an excavated piece. There are traces of white gesso primer as well as small areas of green and red original pigment. H: 21.5cm/8.5i...

Eclectic strand of spherical wood, cylindrical bone and buffalo tooth beads, from the Chin ethnic group in Myanmar. Some of the bone beads have been dyed to resemble pumtek heirloom beads, possibly by a wax resist method. These were collected in the 1980s and had some age at the time so I will date around 1960. One hundred perforated untreated Jadeite discs, circa 1880s to 1950. These were acquired from a Hong Kong jade dealer going out of business due to the ever increasing rents here. Average diameters are between 2cm and 2.5cm and thickness between 2mm and 4mm. These were imported into Hong Kong during the 1980s when local dealers could buy direct from Chinese government owned Arts and Curios Department (usually by the kilo). This meant they were approved for export by the Cultural Rel...
