Unusual dated woman’s sarong from Burma. This is hand loomed with a dancing girl motif, 1974 date (coincides with the forming of Burma’s 2nd constitution under Ne Win) and traditional Burmese pattern. It appears to be made of a combination of silk and synthetic fiber- the yellow threads are silk while the rest are “something else”. Possibly part of a dance troupe costume for a commemorative performance, interesting piece, the only dated one I have ever seen...

Unusual gray stoneware stem cup or tazza with celadon glaze, this is not Longquan ware so I am assuming it is from a Southern provincial kiln and conservatively dating it Yuan/Ming. There is a hairline, some fritting on mouthrim and chipped at the foot- all visible in enlargements. There are faint traces of calligraphy inside the foot, most likely the owners name noted in last enlargement. This has a nice shape and glaze. D: 11cm/4.3in and H: 6cm/2.4in.

Very rare early Shekwan unconventionally shaped Leys jar or censer with Jun type flambé glaze, circa late Ming to early Qing. Personally I think this is Ming based on the shallow but wide footrim and similarity in shape to some Ming celadons I have seen, but will guarantee this to be early Qing, i.e. Kangxi/Yongzheng/Qianlong reigns...

Highly unusual and rare festival heirloom cloth from the Khumi or Mro ethnic groups, Rakhine State, Burma. These were probably made in Gujarat, India circa early 18th century or maybe even earlier and are composed of muslin fabric with block prints of soldiers, elephants, cats and tigers. See last enlargement for reference from Mantles of Merit: Chin Textiles from Myanmar, India and Bangladesh by David and Barbara Fraser...

Lovely carved nephrite pendant with classic “cat on a leaf” motif. This piece has been re-carved to appear as the cat is sitting on a peapod (peapods being one of the myriad of Chinese symbols wishing one to have many children), but was really done to hide the damage on the sides of a larger leaf. This sill retains it’s essence of “kittyness” as she reposes languidly on the leaf. L: 7cm/2.8in.

Mysterious bronze handled knife with iron blade from Cambodia. Very quirky “dragon” handled knife with original bronze sheath bindings, this could possibly be a type of early “meed mor” (Thai magic knife), but to be honest I cannot find any references to this design and style although the pommel has an uncanny resemblance to “Knife with Dragon-Headed Handle, Ordos Type, 14th cent” in the Harvard Art Museum- just google this...

Old mask from East or Central Timor. The previous owner told me, what well might be an apocryphal tale, that this was recovered from “secret hiding place” after a brush fire that was caused by a skirmish between Fretilin and the Indonesian Army during the 1970’s...

Rare and unusual Iban pottery pattern paddle carved from durable Iron Wood, circa 19th century. The pattern on this would be pressed into unfired clay pots to give it this design by the Iban people of Sarawak. This technique has been used since Neolithic times predating the pottery wheel, where pots were made by coiling “ropes” of clay into a shape and then using the paddle to press the coils together...

Good Ming Longquan very heavy bowl with very rare impressed concentric key fret and lotus flower medallion and inner pattern of cranes stalking amidst a lotus garden, symbolizing longevity and purity. Exceptionally fine early 20th century antique ikat sarong from the tiny island of Savu, Indonesia. The weave is a bit course indicating this was made from local native cotton, rather than handspun imported material. This piece is in perfect condition with 6 narrow patterned bands of floating weft. All dyes are organic also note in last enlargement that the narrow blue and white bands are ikat dyed in groupings of only four strands...
