Nice old red and black lacquered Cambodian Siri (betel) box container with foliate scroll pattern incised on the surface. Minor lacquer losses and restoration consistent with an antique piece. The art of Cambodian lacquer production has had a minor renaissance in recent years but this mainly done for the decorative art export market, items made for local village use this has pretty much died out after Khmer Rouge Era and advent of cheap Chinese plastic boxes. Good monkey khik carved from wood, contrary to how I see these often advertised they, have little to do with attracting women, but are worn by on the side by men for luck and prosperity or used by women to ward odd “evil men” and attract money. The symbolism goes way back to Hindu mythology where the Shiva lingam represents primordial creative energy and the Monkey God Hanuman embodies courage and devotion. L: 5cm/2in. Unlike the cast metal types, this is a one off item, hand c...

Vintage/antique, in situ, sleeve panels from the Miao ethnic minority in Guizhou. This date from about 40 to 80 years old; please bear in mind, the ability to do this kind of work has pretty much died out as the economic development in Chinese has caused most young women in the villages to move to the city for better employment opportunities. Textiles still play an important part in Miao life but much of what is produced today is done by machine rather than hand. 39cm/15.4in x 33cm...

Exceptionally rare bronze Burmese/Shan musician which would have been part of Buddhist “nativity ensemble”. These consist of dancers, devotees and musicians celebrating his birth with the young Buddha forming the focal point of the group. Usually these types of images are quite crude and small being placed inside chedis/stupas as a form of merit making and were never meant to be displayed on a Buddhist altar. This one however would have been displayed in private home or temple. I pur...

Very rare early Shekwan unconventionally shaped Leys jar or censer with Jun type flambé glaze, circa late Ming to early Qing. Personally I think this is Ming based on the shallow yet wide footrim and similarity in shape to some Ming celadons I have seen, but will guarantee this to be early Qing, i.e. Kangxi/Yongzheng/Qianlong reigns. There are some firing flaws on the footrim where the piece was pulled from the kiln and bits of the foot came off, bubble bursts inside at the bottom and...
