Late Yuan to early Ming clay and straw seated image of a Buddha, from Northern China (said to be from near Luoyang, Henan). This is typical construction for “cave” Buddhas from this arid region. There are traces of original gold lacquer over stucco. He is seated on a lotus. H 22cm/8.6in and bottom W: 12cm/5.6in- no structural damage although the surface has natural weathering. Nice old persimmon shaped water dropper from Korea with bamboo motif. As I am unfamiliar with Korean ceramics I will date and guarantee this to be “vintage” (pre 1980s) but possibly 19th century. It shows definite signs of wear and normal usage and the white glaze shows a depth that I have seen in Qing and Ming Chinese porcelain. I have priced this low so there may be bargain here for a knowledgeable collector of Korean wares. D: 7.4cm/2.9in and H: 5.4cm/2.1in. Good condition...

Quirky Chinese milk glass ink pad with lid. This piece was manufactured by the Shanghai Jin Cheng Industrial Arts Corporation and dates circa Republic era (1920s). 10cm/4in x 7cm/2.7in x 3.2cm/1.2in. This has few chips on the edge and still serviceable, actually it is quite amazing that this has survived in this good condition at all given the tumultuous events of the times.

Unusual dated brushwasher and ink box, combination with lid. The lid is dated Year 15 of the Founding of the Republic of China (1927), with the name of the owner: Wang Shou, and Guangxi Secondary School, Class 13 also written. The two large characters on the right translate as “Hidden Dragon”. This has a chip and a crack (see last enlargements). A very unusual piece as I don’t encounter dated Republic pieces often and porcelain coming out of Guangxi Province are rare. This is...

Nice old painting of Chung Kwei (Cantonese), Zhong Kui (Putonghua), and signed Wang Hua-Long, (born 1864- died 1948) from Qimen County Anhui Province. Undated but most likely late Qing to early Republic. Chung Kwei is the “Ghostbuster” of Chinese folklore. With his fierce countenance he conquers and subdues demons to give protection from evil and bring good fortune. This painting has been remounted and to some extent repaired so please examine enlargements carefully. IMHO the famous ...

Very unusual Chinese Budai. This is at least Qing Dynasty and probably much older based on the heavy casting and style of base, but will guarantee it to over 100 years old minimum. He has a very pleasing face like someone’s uncle and a “folksy’ feeling to him. Excellent original smooth patina. H: 8cm/3.2in and W: 6cm/2.3in.

Wonderful old copper ink box circa late 19th/early 20th. This has a lovely natural mottled patina which would clean up well with fine steel wool or possibly Brasso. Personally I like the original patina. This is hallmarked and has 295 characters (more or less) incised on the lid, and is copied from The Lantingji Xu , "Preface to the Poems Collected from the Orchid Pavilion") or Lanting Xu. This is a piece of Chinese calligraphy work generally considered to be written by the well-known ...

Small bronze image of Annapurna; the Goddess of the hearth and food (as well a whacking big mountain named after her). She sits holding a ladle with which she feeds the world, with an unlimited amount of food. She is an incarnation of Parvati, the wife of Shiva. Annapurna symbolizes the divine aspect of nourishing care. This predates the 18th century with excellent patina. She has a broken arm and damage to the base- please examine enlargements. Very rare and previously undocumented Burmese jar with heavy cream ”moon white” glaze. I have no idea what the original purpose for this jar was, perhaps it was an oil lamp as there are wide set lugs as well as holes in the splayed out foot to fasten it down to something. This is one of the very few Burmese pieces I have seen in perfect condition (except for one bare spot on one of the lugs) there is no restoration. Nothing known about Burmese ceramics except that the only site...

Fine and rare pair of “rice gods” carved from durable iron wood (Belian) from the Kayan people of Sarawak. These were kept in the rafter in rice storage containers as protective spirits to guard the harvested padi. Nice old matched male and female (mother father) pair circa late 19th to early 20th century. Orignally these were on the end of a long stick that was stuck in the rice, but these have been cut to make them appear more “sellable”. I acquired these in Sarawak a...

Late Qing Dynasty large “lock” charm. Incised on one side, are the usual characters of wealth, health and longevity and on the other side “together forever” is inscribed, which is uncharacteristically romantic and sentimental for Chinese charms wishing the owner for a long and happy relationship. This would make a great gift for a lover or spouse. Good condition with a couple of “flea bite” sized chips and naturally occurring inclusions. L: 9.5cm/3.7in, W: 6.1cm/2.4in and...
